Hi Geoff - Just found your blog and have really enjoyed reading through a bunch of what you've written here. I'll be adding you to my rss reader - nice to find another Canadian guy trying to lead people to grow in their worship of God.

I love this article. We just worked through this issue this week around the line "Jesus, I am so in love with you" from "Let My Words Be Few" by Redman. There were a few points that came up in the discussion -

Is saying that we are "in love" with Jesus equivalent to saying we "love" Jesus?
Is the romantic/"in love" relationship portrayed clearly enough in scripture that we can say that we are individually "in love with Jesus"?
Is it weird to do that song on Father's Day??

All of those things - and more - got tossed around in our discussion and we very quickly decided that we needed to change the lyric, so we did. The integrity of the song was maintained, we removed the potentially distracting lyric and I think the song was a better description of our relationship with Christ by not singing that line.
